The Most Wonderful (Summer)time of the Year!
My dearest gentle drinkers, it is time to jubilate over the start of what I consider to be one of the loveliest activities on the Twain Harte social calendar: The Twain Harte Chamber of Commerce Concerts in the Park Series at 6pm on Saturdays!
For locals and visitors alike the summertime Saturday concerts at Eproson Park are a wondrous and enjoyable social occasion, often acting as the anchor-event of other Saturday evening activities here in our small town. They give us a compelling reason to dress up in charming warm-weather fancy dress (aka short-sleeve shirts and dresses), to let our resort-living hair down and dance, sing along with nostalgic tunes and most importantly: break out our collections of whites, Roses and even red wines, snacks and glassware in a most impressive group collaboration. Of course, my dear gentle drinkers, there will be those who “buck the trend” in terms of attire or chosen libation, however I would argue that most of us take advantage of this unique tradition of wine and dress.
I do not know about your habits, gentle drinkers, however I have a tendency to collect light whites, roses, and light reds like Beaujolais Gamay and Northern Italian Dolcetto over the winter season and hoard them specifically for the Concerts in the Park.
If you forget your bottle at home, are here visiting or simply make a spur-of-the-moment decision for wine, I offer here a quick rundown of your purchasing options in our immediate vicinity: Divine Market, Soulsbyville; Sierra Cellars, Twain Harte; and Mountain Liquors, Twain Harte.
First, Divine Market, slightly down the hill in Soulsbyville, has overall an exciting and tremendously large selection of premium wines that I consider quite dangerous. However, it is cheaper to indulge yourself here than travelling to Napa! They have collected their easy-drinking and recognizable whites onto an endcap facing the “wall of wine” for quick retrieval. Buy early in the day to allow for chilling.
A charming local spot for much social engagement, Sierra Cellars on Meadow Lane in Twain Harte offers their own name brand white wines in most common grape varieties as well as a Rose.
Rebecca and her barktender Ginger make sure that there is a good selection of her wines chilling in her refrigerator so that you might simply stop in while walking over to the park nearby.
At the corner of Fuller Road and our mainstreet Joaquin Gully Rd is the centrally-located Mountain Liquors. Their refrigerator (at the back lefthand side) offers a selection of cool whites and a Rose with familiar producer names. Of note here is a fun selection of Bubbly offerings for mixing into refreshing evening libations or to simply enjoy on their own merits. If you have a cooler and ice, Bubbly is always a lovely idea!
Mountain Liquors also has an interesting selection, including some uncommon but lovely wines along the back wall if you have some chilling time.
Myself, my lovely collection of cher amis and the Chamber Board members, look forward to seeing all the familiar and new faces over the summer at the Concerts in the Park. We invite you to have a wonderful, safe and joyous time enjoying the music and company each week!
A bientot gentle drinkers! I hope to see you on Saturday evenings.
A few noteworthy RULES going forward for this year to remind you of:
ABSOLUTELY NO BLANKETS ON THE GRASS; blankets will be removed if laid out prior to the 6:00 concert or during. We suggest setting blankets on the tanbark in the play area
NO ALCOHOL USE INTO THE PARKING LOT; please drink responsibly only on the park premises
